What's New
Jan 17, 2011 – DD Night & Second Degree
At our annual January Regular meeting, we received our District Deputy Grand Master, R.W. Bro. John Forster on his official visit. Prior to the meeting, we had a sumptuous catered festive board and R.W. Bro. Forster spoke on the importance of Long Range Planning for our fraternity in general and our lodges in particular. During our meeting we had the pleasure to confer the Fellowcraft degree on Bro. Paul who demonstrated that we was certainly a candidate properly prepared to be passed to the second degree.

Dec 20, 2010 – Presentation from Faculty of Medicine at UofO

Our annual Christmas, Hannukah and Eid al-adha celebration was combined with our Regular meeting and some guest speakers. The evening was kicked off with a wine and cheese at 5:30 followed by a tasty catered dinner. We were fortunate to have a number of representatives from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa attend as well as the DDGM, his wife and other wives of departed brethren.

Following a brief meeting, W. Bro. Richard Loomes gave a brief history of the Dr. John Dobbie Scholarship. Dr. Jacques Bradwejn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, then spoke about the importance of the scholarship to both the students and the faculty. It is estimated that the average medical student could graduate with over $150,000 in debt so financial support is critical. He then introduced two guest speakers from University of Ottawa Skills & Simulation Centre (OSSC) which recently opened in October 2010: Dr. Viren Naik, Medical Director and Dr. Stanley Hamstra, Research Director. The talks explained how medical education has changed over the years and how the OSSC is leading the innovation to better prepare doctors for the real world of practicing medicine resulting in better outcomes.

Nov 29, 2010 – DeMolay Appreciates Masonry Night
W. Bro. Jim White along with some other members attended the Ottawa DeMolay Appreciates Masonry Night. This was an opportunity for the youth to thank the Masonic community for their continued support and to demonstrate what DeMolay is all about. This year our Worshipful Master presented cheques to both the Ottawa Chapter and Ontario DeMolay. The Master Councillor, Dominic Riffou-Loomes expressed his appreciation for the support from The Builders’ Lodge and others in the Masonic community. As part of the evening, R.W. Bro. Barry Burchill was given the Honorary Legion of Honour and a Past Master Councillor was conferred the Chevalier degree. The chapter also held a dinner prior to the ceremonies to raise funds to send youth to a leadership camp in Pennsylvania.

Nov 15, 2010 – Remembrance service, Tyler LeBlanc Initiation

At our November meeting we held our annual memorial service. This moving ceremony allowed us to remember and honour those members who have passed to the Grand Lodge above and recognize all of those members who have or are representing our great country by serving in the armed forces. We also had the honour to launch Bro. Tyler LeBlanc on his Masonic Journey. Welcome to our great fraternity.

June 12th, 2010 – Relay for Life
For the 10th year in a row, the lodge continued with tradition and supported the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. This is an incredible event that celebrates life and honours those who have lost the battle. The evening started incredibly nice and then after the clock struck the hour of midnight, the showers started and continued, mostly unabated, throughout the night. This year, we also shared a large tent with the DeMolay team and Pleiad Canada. Thanks to the team for well representing the lodge and supporting our community.
